Capt. Kris Kelley started guiding on the mid-coast waters of the Seadrift/Port O'Connor area in 1993 establishing Coastal Waterfowl at that time. "I started the business with $25 in a business checking account and a vision. There were no backers, no investors, no "family money" to fall back on, so it was make it or break it." In 2006, Kris and Wendi began developing Castaway Lodge and opened it in April of 2007. Since then, they have been blessed with lots of great guides, clients, and friends that have driven tremendous growth and improvement.
In the Fall of 2015, they began a well thought out 11,000 square foot expansion of the facility and grounds including the addition of a new Bayou Front property adjacent to existing operations. "The neat thing about this property besides the bayou frontage is the large greenbelt areas bordering it which are well over an acre giving our guests plenty of relaxation area and miles of kayak trail with access to the bay". They also developed a full Indoor Dining/Conference building that will seat 40 guests. The new addition features a central office for check-in/out as well as a new flex entertainment/mud room for waterfowl and wade fishing staging and dressing.
The lodge has been recognized here in Texas and Nationally as one of the top fishing and waterfowl hunting destinations. If you would like to read more about us, check out these "feature articles"
