Boiling Herds of Tails & Backs

Good Friday was just that for Chris Y. and family working the shallows of Matagorda Island for Redfish by airboat. The tide was extremely low and looked more like a January cold front low than the middle of April. Redfish, trapped by the conditions, were circling deeper pools pounding anything in their way with tails and backs jockeying and posturing for position pushing a four inch wake and splashing the whole way. If that wasn’t visually betraying enough, Royal Turns gave them away as the so called “liar bird” in deeper waters only tells the “truth” in back country shallows.

Saturday saw a big change in conditions as the water came surging back with overcast skies. The Reid M. party managed limits of Redfish to 27.5”. Ten year old Andy was the main focus and his dad wanted him to get into them. With even odds, Andy led the way to the point of releasing some solid fish after limiting out.
