Glass Minnows Key Right Now

It's with a great sigh, of at least momentary relief, that we've got the Deepwater Horizon plugged and oil is no longer freeflowing into the Gulf.

Glass Minnows have been the key to Trout here lately and there are hoards of them in places. With light winds, you can see the schools streaming across area structure and the Trout haven't been far behind. Changing tides and heavier winds associated with passing T-storms can move the bait deep and that pretty much sticks a fork in everything. If you are struggling to catch a Trout, Redfish have been popping off here lately over mud/grass pockets in shallower bays and back lakes. With the back lakes slicked off today, I thought I'd take a peak at where they were hanging out and it didn't take long to find them. I saw some nice 10 and 15 fish schools working shallow. That's encouraging as we head closer to Fall.

SAB is super fresh and turbid North and just South of the ICW. I haven't been brave enough to venture up into it lately, but I'm sure I'll pop in from time to time. Skipjack may not be a "bad thing" at the moment, they are pointing the way to Glass Minnows and Trout both. There are some "solids" out there and the little miniature Tarpone will get you on your toes in a hurry...LOL!

Lodge News

We've got a bunch of new art for the lodge including Cowan, Maas, Whitlock, Drinkard and the likes including the first ever issued Texas Saltwater Stamp and Print by John Cowan from the 80's. We'd like to express our appreciation to Prellop's Fine Art Gallery on the square in Salado for making it happen. www.prellopfineartgallery.com

Good fishing!
