When you have special needs guests, it's best to communicate that with your lodge host well in advance of the trip to ensure a high level of service. An old "guide" friend of mine chose us recently to host a family reunion trip. We've known each other for more than 25 years and I cut my teeth on the big prairies with Stuart Lowery back in the old Texas Waterfowl days.
With a wheel chair bound daughter and near 80 mother, we hit the water with an eye on a great day on the water and getting them into some fish. Sure enough things were a challenge with some really big winds but we managed to catch a few. Bottom line, we don't leave anyone behind! Our motto has been and will always be "any weather, any day, any client, get them on fish".
Of course we would like to have seen the rods bend a little more, but sometimes there are other things far more important. Things like enjoying some time on the water with family for perhaps the last time, or enjoying the company of family and friends with some of the best guides and people on the coast. It is something to consider and a little bit bigger picture. It's definately a serious concern on our end and something not advertised as part of the job in the "wanna be a guide brochure".
