Castaway Lodge Seadrift Report
By Capt. Kris Kelley

Our very own "James Gang" managed to sweep top honors in two separate tournaments over the weekend. FMC's tournament supporting the United Way found Capt. James Eastep taking 2nd Place Stringer in the artificials division while Capt. James Cunningham took 1st Place Big Stringer and "The Spot Pot" in the ISA Tournament in POC. This year that makes 2) 1st place finishes; 3) 2nd place finishes; and, 1) 4th place finish and in all the tournaments we've entered. Way to go guys.
Overcast and sporadic rains have been a welcome arrival here lately dramatically dropping the temperature and sending the fish on a rampage. Capt. James reported strong showings on Redfish pushing the upper end of the range. Capt. Chris repoted a shut down in the bite in the back marsh taking over half limits before the fish went tight lipped. We continue working artificial lures and live bait in various venues depending on wind and water conditions. Stability has allowed us to dial in a bit which beats the heck out ranging all over the bays.
Seasonal Transitions - Signs
We are seeing more and more Hummingbirds here at the lodge and we know the next little push from the North will have us inundated with them. They are the leading indicators of good things to come. We are in the final stages of preparations for the upcoming
Texas Alligator Season; Teal ponds are near filled; and Dove are on the wing. Gosh, the fish are biting and it just doesn't get much better, come on cool weather! Come see us when you get a chance!
